Charles Allan Holder was born on 25th November 1919 in Burwell (Newmarket Q1-1920 3B:1033), baptised in Burwell on 30th December 1919 son of Henry Louis and Blanche Maud HOLDER (née HORSLEY), of Burwell.

His parents, father [14-1-1889] centrifugal operator at sugar beet factory; mother 22-7-1889; brothers Gordon L [7-1-1914] after product operator at sugar beet factory, and Harold R [16-9-1924] general labourer, were living at 3 The Avenue, Ness Road, Burwell for the 1939 register.

His younger brother Francis died in the Korean War in 1951 and is buried in Pusan. see here





Taken prisoner on 15th February 1942 at the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese. "Battalion at War" by Michael Moore says he died of cholera at Tonchan, Thailand. Tonchan is about 80 km north of Chungkai on the Burma-Siam railway. There was an outbreak of cholera in the camp June-August 1943.
